ARE THERE THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR IN YOUR COMMUNITY-PART 1?

In three days from now we sit around the table stuffing turkey down our throats while we simultaneously reflect on all the things we should be thankful for, other than the great tasting turkey. The easy ones are family and good health.  Some might also be thankful for a new job, new car or good grades by your kids.  How many of you however would be thankful for the community and home you live in?

Week after week, throughout the year, everyone writes in complaining that in order to find their community association on a map, you would have to search somewhere between hell and the town that those who actually live in hell call “the bad neighborhood.”

This week is somewhat of a social experiment.  In the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday, you are required to dig down, way down.  Keep going.  A little more…….and find something to be thankful for in your community.  Perhaps you’re only thankful that someone other than yourself is crazy enough to serve on your Board.  Then simply say you’re thankful for them.  Maybe you’re thankful for a wonderful neighbor you have.  Perhaps you’re thankful about the wonderful amenities your association has to offer, like the clubhouse and the swimming pool.

Today, it’s like we’re in a therapy session and the therapist is asking you to say something nice about your spouse,   even though you may want to tear his or her head off and you haven’s actually said something nice in years..  You’re under the gun.  You must come up with something nice to say.  And…….if you’re a fan of the blog, you can’t just ignore it this week.  It’s too easy to participate when the topic allows you to chew out the place.  Today, I need you to work harder with me at making this blog a great place to share ideas, vent and hopefully say a few nice words about your community, your neighbors or dare I say it…….your Board.

To all of you and your families, I wish a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.  Now…..what are you thankful about in your community?  Be nice.
